The Summer Summary

The summer promised to be full of action with us playing Manchester City in the Community Shield after our success in beating Hull in the FA Cup. And with rumors going round that the owner of Arsenal had pledged £100m towards purchases during the summer transfer window to strengthen our team and dreams of splashing the cash on a world class signing seemed possible

Our first Pre-season game was against the New York Red Bulls home to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry the game was pretty dull until the Red Bulls hit first with a goal from Bradley Wright-Philips that came directly from a corner(which we have had problems defending all through this season.) And the game stayed like that a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls.

During the summer transfer window we were linked with signing of Manager Internationale Sami Khedira, Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Yohan Cabaye, Callum Chambers and finally Danny Welbeck on transfer deadline day. Yohan Cabaye was quickly snapped up by Ligue 1 champions PSG. With Yohan Cabaye's deal not happeneing Arsenal fans had there hearts set on Sami Khedira joining us this year everything seemed a done deal as Real Madrid and Arsenal have aggreed a transfer figure however the trouble came when Sami apparently wanted £150,000 a week which Wenger was not prepared to pay and so he stayed a Real Madrid. Things were looking bleak for Arsenal fans as we were dreading another summer full of disappointing transfers. However our hopes were restored when Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy were officially Arsenal players both being signed in the week. Callum Chambers a young Center Back with big potential was also snapped up by the gunners. Finally on transfer deadline day Arsenal fans where concerned as we only have two strikers in our squad Oliver Giroud and Yaya Sanogo and Wenger realized this and went out to sign England international Danny Welbeck from Manchester United overall the transfer this window was pretty successful.

The Emirates Cup which is an annual tournament held at the Emirates Stadium each season kicked off with us playing the Portuguese giants Benfica. Alexis Sanchez would also make his debut for Arsenal today. The game started off well with both teams attacking was other and the game looked like it was going to be a thriller. In the 25th minute Hector Bellerin plays a lovely ball to Sanogo's feet who hits it first time but striker the bar. Moments later Yaya Sanogo gets gifted with another chance which he tucks away nicely 1-0 to the gunners. We keep putting pressure on the Benfica defense until finally in the 40th minute they re defense cant handle the pressure conceding 3 goals from the 40th minute minute till half time 1 from Joey Campbell and another two from Yaya Sanogo giving him his first hat trick for Arsenal before half time! The second half was a lot more duller with Yaya Sanogo bagging another goal right after the break and in the 60th minute Nico Gaitan bagging a constellation goal from a set piece. This game shows what Arsenal are capable when everyone is on the right page, also new signing Alexis Sanchez had an impressive debut assisting two of the five goals today.

Finally the last game of the pre-season vs Premier League Champions Manchester City. The game started of with City dominated the game with a shot from Samir Nasri in the box being blocked by new sign Debuchy moments a fantastic cross from Jesus Navas that lead to a powerful header from Jovetic that forced an acrobatic save from Szczesny and things were looking gloom until Santi Carzola hits the back of the net from a well worked counter attack moments later Sanchez plays a wonderful pass to the feet of Sanogo who holds the ball up at sets it to Ramsey who beats the keeper 2-0! at half time. In the second half both teams made substitutions Arsenal replaced Sanchez with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sanogo with Giroud and Koscielney with Monreal and for City they replaced David Silva with Nasri.. Oliver Giroud was pretty quiet until the 60th minute when he turned two defenders and banged in a  long shot from 25 yards out 3-0 Arsenal!

And that's how the game ends a well deserved win by Arsenal that shows that the gunners could be a title contender and can beat any team when the whole team is on the same page.
